Memo to Lobo Unit Company Commanders about Caution and Being Captured, March 1944

The Lobo Unit, USAFFE Guerrilla was originally considered by the United States army as part of the Pandita Area, DI Combat, Free Luzon Area, 6th Military District guerrilla outfit under the command of one Danny Flores. The mother organization was not favorably considered for recognition by the United States Army. In this page is a transcription1 of a memorandum issued to company commanders of the Lobo Unit announcing the capture of certain guerrilla leaders and the expected actions if anybody was captured by the Japanese.

1. It is hereby announced that Colonel Jorge Espina and Major Marianito Evangelista had been captured by the Japanese. They are the commanding officers of the Fil-American under Colonel Hugh Straughn.

2. All officers are hereby cautioned to be on the alert and beware of capture and if fate rules upon you to be [a] prisoner of war, the following points have been released from the headquarters as your devotion and loyalty to this unit and your comrades.

(a) Whenever you are captured, never reveal the name of the unit you belong to.

(b) Never tell the names of your Commanding Officers and officers and enlisted men, their whereabouts and the activities of the unit to where you belong.

(c) Never reveal anything pertaining to the organization. Just be a soldier loyal to your country and to your Superior Officers.

(d) Never speak nor talk with the enemies for you might happen to reveal the secrets which you are not told to do.

(e) In the first place, try to escape from the enemies undetected and proceed with care to your officer and report.

3. Officers are hereby ordered to give instructions pertaining to this memorandum for the safety and success of the unit.
