Letter from Capt. Octavio Nicolas to the Ex-Off, 49th Regt, Hunters-ROTC on Unit Membership
[TRANSCRIPTION]
The Alcazar Battalion was a guerrilla unit purportedly founded by one Emilio Alcazar in the town of Talisay, Batangas in March of 1942. It was supposedly initially affiliated with Marcos Agustin’s guerrilla outfit but, because of difficulties in communicating with the mother unit, it later became attached instead to the Hunters-ROTC. Communication with this other large organization, however, was also poor so that essentially, the Alcazar Battalion operated independently. In this page is a transcription1 of the a communication sent by one Capt. Octavio Nicolas of the Alcazar Regiment to the Executive Officer of the 49th Regiment of the Hunters-ROTC with explanations regarding unit membership.

a. That some members of the Town Unit of Talisay appeared in this CP. for enlistment. When asked if they were already enlisted in the Town Unit, their answer was that the Town Unit had enlisted them without their consent and knowledge.
b. Some also appeared in the CP. requesting if they could transfer from the Town Unit to this unit. But our answer was that they should file their transfer in their unit and, if approved, we would admit them.
2. With regards to paragraph ( 1 ) above, it would not be amiss to say that the Town Unit has enlisted some of their members without first consulting them if they would voluntarily join their unit, since this organization is not compulsory.
3. As to our roster, we have not enlisted any member of their unit.
