Photo of the Causeway and Boat Landing in Batangas Town [January 1928 BPW Annual Report]
In 1927, the American colonial government, with the Bureau of Public Works as the implementing institution, undertook the construction of a causeway – a raised road or track – and a boat landing in the town of Batangas. This project was subsequently included in the 1928 Annual Report of the Director of the Bureau of Public Work.
The total amount expended by the Bureau of Public Works to cover the construction not only of the boat landing but also the causeway leading to it was ₱30,000.
Upon completion, the small-boat landing was able to accommodate vessels with a six-foot draft. Draft refers to the distance from the waterline to the hull or keel of the boat. The causeway and landing is shown in the photograph below.
