Non-Favorable Decision on Request to Revise Recognition Dates, January 1948
The San Jose Batangas Guerrillas was another unit in the province of Batangas that fought the Japanese under the banner of the large guerrilla organization called Fil-American Irregular Troops, commanded by the former United States Army Col. Hugh Straughn until he was caught and executed by the Japanese. The San Jose unit was commanded by one Amado Masilungan. In this document1, one Captain R. E. Cantrell of the Adjutant General’s Office of the United States Army’s Philippines-Ryukyus Command wrote to Masilungan to inform the latter that a submitted request for the revision of recognition dates had been denied..

Dear Mr. Masilungan:
The Commanding General has directed that you be informed that the San Jose Batangas Guerrillas, a guerrilla unit under your nominal control, recognized by letter dated 6 January 1948, Headquarters PHILRYCOM, has not been favorably considered for revision of its present recognition dates.
A thorough and detailed examination of all supporting papers submitted by your unit and an exhaustive study of the history of your unit, together with a careful analysis of all other available information of the military activities of your unit from its inception, scrutinized in relation to the overall resistance movement, has failed to justify sufficiently the establishment of dates of recognition other than those previously published.
This letter constitutes the final determination of an action upon the periof of official recognition of the San Jose Batangas Guerrillas.
Capt. AGD
Asst. Adj. Gen.
Lt Col Wallace M Hanes:
