Formerly known as San Jose Malaquing Tubig, this town used to be part of Bauan until formally separated in 1765. In the present day, it is a 1st income class municipality sometimes referred to as “The Egg Capital of the Philippines.” It has a total land area of 5,329 hectares and a population as per the 2020 Philippine Census of 79,868.
San Jose has 33 barangays and is part of the 4th legislative district of the Province of Batangas. It can be reached by road from Manila via the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road, which has an exit right into the town. Alternatively, one can exit in Lipa and drive through the JP Laurel National Highway to get to the town.
