The City of Lipa is, as per the 2020 Philippine Census, the Province of Batangas’ most populous geopolitical subdivision with a total of 372,931 inhabitants. It is the Province of Batangas' first city, cityhood having been established in 1947. While landlocked, the city nonetheless occupies a strategic location in the province and serves as gateway to other towns of Batangas such as San Juan, Rosario, Ibaan and Taysan. Its total land area is 20,940 hectares.
As Villa de Lipa back in the late 18th century, Lipa was the hub of Batangas’ coffee industry. While this industry has decline since, it has been supplanted by many others and Lipa is currently home to large malls and countless local and multinational establishment. Lipa, which has 72 barangays and, like Batangas City, a lone legislative unit known as District VI. It can be reached directly from Manila via the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road.
