The town of Cuenca in the Province of Batangas used to be part of the pueblo called San Jose Malaquing Tubig, presently just known as San Jose. It was established as a separate town in 1877. Cuenca is a 4th income class municipality with a land area of 5,818 hectares and a population of 36,235 as per the 2020 Philippine Census. Just to the town center's north is the famous and historic mountain of Maculot.
Cuenca has 21 barangays and is part of Batangas’ 3rd legislative district. It is known for its numerous bakeries and also for its Tinapay Festival. It is also home to a favorite destination for mountain climbers, Mount Makulot. Cuenca can be reached by road from Manila via the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road through Lipa.
