The town of Balayan in the Province of Batangas is among the oldest in the country, even if its founding date is placed as “recently” as 1571. It already existed before the arrival of the Spaniards and has been known to have had active trade with Borneo. It was the first town explored by the Spaniards in Luzon when the Spaniards Martin de Goite and Juan de Salcedo were sent by the conquistator Miguel López de Legazpi to Manila.
In the present day, Balayan is ranked as a first-class municipality with a land area of 10,973 hectares and a 2020 population of 95,913. Balayan, which is known for its Lechon Festival, can be reached via Tagaytay.
